Dr. Emily Monroe
Emily Monroe was born and raised in St. Helens, Oregon and graduated from St. Helens High School in 2010. She continued her education at Oregon State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 2014. During that time, she spent 6 months abroad in Australia and despite loving the adventure, she returned home to Oregon to continue her education. In June, Dr. Monroe graduated with honors from Oregon Health and Science University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Monroe started working alongside Dr. Michael Van Gordon back in July 2019 and became a partner with the transition to Van Gordon Monroe Dental in September 2020. Dr. Emily has enjoyed coming back home to her hometown, seeing familiar faces and helping care for the community that helped raise her. Dr. Emily believes in conservative, quality dentistry and wants to work alongside you to solve your chief concerns and improve your overall dental health.
When Dr. Monroe is not at the office; she is likely spending time with her husband, Bradley Stewart, also a St. Helens native. The couple was able to conquer some 2020 cancellations and eloped at Lost Lake in August 2020. They enjoy spending time outside, hiking, camping, golfing discing, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends that live in the area

Changing Faces, Continuing a Legacy.
For the past 20 years the Van Gordon family have been providing dental care to the St. Helens community. Dr. Larry Van Gordon was a dear friend of Dr. Orv Thorson, and stepped in to help following his tragic passing.
Dr. Michael Van Gordon was just finishing up his dental schooling when the decision was made that he would take over the practice. In June, 2020, Dr. Michael celebrated his 20th anniversary practicing dentistry here. Many of you have watched as his family grew, as well as this dental practice.
It is with great sadness that we announced the passing of Dr. Michael Van Gordon. As many know, Michael has been ill and fighting his battle with cancer for the past four years. He lost that battle on December 23rd, 2020,
Michael was a wonderful brother, a terrific mentor, and a true friend to all of us. He was also an
outstanding dentist who practiced at the highest level. When his illness inhibited his ability to serve his patients, he asked Dr. Emily Monroe and his brother, Dr. Brock Van Gordon, to take over his practice and make sure that it continued to operate in the same manner until he was able to fully return. He loved seeing, working with, and helping his patients and wanted to be sure that they would be served in the same way in his absence.
Michael had been waiting for the day to come that he would partner with Dr. Monroe, ever since she expressed interest in the dental field as one of his patients some 9 years ago. Michael was one of her inspirations to become a dentist, and the moment she graduated, he brought her on to work with him full time. While mentoring Dr. Monroe, Michael was always impressed with her skill level of dentistry, and the rapport she had with everyone. In March of this year, Michael rebranded his office to Van Gordon Monroe LLC for the upcoming new partnership with Dr. Emily.
When Michael came to accept the fact that he would likely not be able to return to the practice of dentistry, a profession that he truly loved, he made arrangements for his brother, Dr. Brock, and Dr. Monroe to purchase his practice and continue on his legacy with his passing. We were honored that he would ask us, and it has been our pleasure to continue what Michael began. We will continue his dream and grow his legacy in memory of him. Many of you have met Dr. Brock over the past 4 years of his time in and out of the office during Michael’s chemotherapy treatments. Dr. Brock has been a dentist for 19 years and has his own office in Wilsonville. He will be in the office 6 days per month to help with patient care.
Over the time that we have been working in Michael’s practice, we have been so fortunate to come to understand and appreciate what a special place it is. We have enjoyed getting to know you and providing the same high quality of dental care that was the standard established by Michael. We will miss him every day, but we will be honored to continue to serve you and to share memories of him. Thank you for your thoughts for his family at this difficult time. Losing a cherished loved one is always difficult, and such is the case now. Michael loved his family dearly, and his absence will leave a void that will be ever present. Nevertheless, his family knows that you cared about him as much as he cared about you, and that thought brings comfort.
We look forward to seeing each of you. We thank you in advance for your kind thoughts and prayers and wish you the very best until we can see you again in the office.
